This is me. Breathing. Every three seconds an exhalation that pushes
my lungs outwards, every three seconds an inhalation that pulls my flesh
into my the curve of my ribcage. Expand, contract, expand, contract.
Repeat, repeat.
This is me. A heart steadily beating against a wall of flesh. A small
red cardinal constantly flapping his wings against a prison of ivory
bone, the sound of his own vigor thundering through his head.
This is me. A cascade of black curls and a fringe of long lashes. The
epitome of woman trapped behind ashen skin and the sharpened curve of hipbone.
Eyes the color of dark winter clouds that hold the memories of worlds
you've only read about in books.
This is me. Drenched to the bone in a rain storm. Biding my time. Waiting.
